New Delhi is situated in the north-central part of India on the west bank of the Yamuna River, adjacent to and just south of Old Delhi, which is the historic center of Delhi, and within the Delhi national capital territory.

Hindi is the official language of Delhi and as the city is dominated by the Hindu population, the majority of the people speak Hindi.

History of Delhi 

Delhi’s history is as interesting and grandiose as the city itself. Delhi did not achieve capital city status from the start. However, due to its strategic location, it has always been one of the largest and most important cities. The city is believed to have existed around 1450 BC. arose, On the site of the Old Fort, as the royal fortress of Indraprastha, the capital of Pandavas. Later the city of Lal Kot or Quila Rai Pit hora was founded in 1060 AD by Rajput Tomaras

Located in the Qutb Minar Mehrauli complex, it was further developed by the Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan. The history of Delhi takes us to the city of Siri which was built in 1304 AD. from Alauddin Khilji near Hauz Khas and Gulmohar Park. In the 1320s, Ghiyals-ud-din Tughlaq built the city of Tughlakabad near the Qutab Minar complex. The rulers of the Tughlaq dynasty continued to expand their empire in Delhi by founding more Jahan Panah and Feroza Bad in the 14th century. After Tughlaqs came Humayun who built Dilli Sher Shahi (Sherah) around the area of the Old Fort in the 1530s.Delhi’s history continued with the city of Shahjahan Abad, built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the mid-17th century and still known as Old Delhi. The city was also the focus of the first War of Independence in 1857. The history and origin of New Delhi dates back to the 1920s after the 1911 Delhi Durbar decided to transfer the seat of power from Kolkata to Delhi. The whole area of Connaught Place and Rajpath came into existence only then. Each era of Delhi has

reminders of its existence.

By road: Delhi is well connected by bus to cities like Agra, Jaipur, Alwar, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Shimla, Manali, Dharamsala, Dehradun, and even Kathmandu among others. The main bus stands in Delhi are the Interstate Bus Terminals which are located at Kashmiri Gate, Anand Vihar, and Sarai Kale Khan.
