Rajasthan

Rajasthan is a state of northwestern India, located in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. Rajasthan is the name which means  “The Abode of the Rajas,” was formerly called  Rajputana , “The Country of the Rajput” (sons of rajas [princes]). It covers an area of 342,239 square km.

Location

In the North part of Rajasthan,It is bordered by Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to the northeast, Madhya Pradesh to the southeast and Gujarat to the southwest.

Language

Hindi is principally speaking in Rajasthan. The most common language of Rajasthan is Marwari.

Peoples

Rajasthan peoples are well known for their friendly affable nature. Rajasthan has a total population of about 68 million people.

History of Rajasthan

Rajasthan has a glorious ancient history. Humans lived along the banks of the Banas River and its tributaries some 100,000 years ago. The discovery near Bairat (in north-central Rajasthan) of two rock inscriptions from the 3rd century bce indicate that the area was at that time under the rule of Ashoka the last great emperor. Rajasthan came under Muslim rulers around of 1200 AD. The main centers of their powers were Nagaur  and Ajmer. The most prominent and powerful state of Rajasthan was Mewar at the beginning of the 13th century AD.

It had never been united politically until its domination by Mughal Emperor – Akbar. Akbar made a unified province of Rajasthan. Mughal power started to decline after 1707. The political disintegration of Rajasthan was caused by the dismemberment of the Mughal Empire. The Marathas penetrated Rajasthan upon the decline of the Mughal Empire. In 1755 they occupied Ajmer. 

Tradition of Rajasthan

Rajasthan has a rich tradition and culture. The most-famous song is “Kurja.””kurja” tells the story of a woman who wishes to send a message to her absent husband by a kurja (a type of bird), who is promised a priceless reward for his service. The traditional dance of Rajasthan is the groomer, which is performed on festive occasions by only women.

There are some famous old establishments in Rajasthan, such as historic Rajput hill forts, six of which—including those at Chittorgarh, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, and Jhalawar—were collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013.

Rajasthan has various religious festivals. The most popular of those celebrations is the Gangaur festival. Another important festival, held at Pushkar near Ajmer, takes the form of a mixed religious festival and livestock fair.

Rajasthan and the surrounding region in India is known as the Rajasthani cuisine.  Rajasthan is famed for its rich regal culture and heritage. The famous dishes of this state are,

How to reach Rajasthan

By Road: Rajasthan has incredible road service. The national highway of Rajasthan is measured 5655 km while the state highway is of 8627 km. NH8 passes through Jaipur and Udaipur.

By Rail: Rajasthan has a good network of rail from Delhi and Mumbai. Mumbai, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Udaipur are connected with the daily superfast trains. 

By Air : Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), at New Delhi is the nearest airport which is located at a distance of 250 KM. Regular flights connecting the major cities like Delhi and Mumbai to Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. 

 There are two major airports at Jodhpur and Udaipur that have access to several flights boosting tourism in the state.
