What backdrop comes to hear these two words? Yes, absolutely it is the scenario of Lord Krishna playing with Sri Radha and many other Gopikas in a beautiful pleasant place. And we know all about his glorious achievements. We also know that there are a large number of people in the world, who follows the ideology of Shree Krishna. They are famously known as “Vaishnava”.

Shree Chaitanya is the first person who says about this religion and spreads this religion of love, peace, and apology. Do you want to know about him? Then we should know about his place. Yes, guys, we are going to know about “Navadwipa” or “Nabadwip”, the holy birthplace of “Shree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu”.

Nabadwip is a heritage city in Nadia. It is considered the old capital of the “Sena Dynasty”. This city is famous for the traditional “Oxford of Bengal”. After the birth of Mahaprabhu, Nabadwip becomes an important pilgrim of Vaishnavas as well as Hindus.

 

Visiting places of Nabadwip:

1. Sri Chaitanya Saraswat Math

The prime attraction of Nabadwip. This temple is devoted to Sri Chaitanya Dev, who was born in Nabadwip. This temple was established in 1941 by Om Vishnupad Srila Sridhar Dev Goswami Maharaj. It has more than 50 international centers around the world. It is also known as Jal Mandir. You must see the burial of Sri Dev Goswami Maharaj, Sri Govinda Dav Goswami Maharaj, the museum, and the famous Gourikunda. Here you can see a temple surrounded by water and a small zoo where you can feed deer, and peacocks with your own hand.

2. Sonar Gouranga Mandir

Sonar Gouranga Temple is a very famous temple in Nabadwip. You can see the footprint of the great Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. It is kept in a glass case. This temple is just opposite Samajbari Ashram and beside Srribas Angan. The main attraction of this temple is the gold shrine of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. You can also watch Samajbari Ashram and Sribas Angan just near this temple.

Sonar Gouranga Mandir

3. Dwadas Shiva Mandir

This is a very old and prominent temple in Nabadwip. The Lord, who worshiped in this temple is Lord Shiva. This old temple was built in 1835 by Gurudas Das. The main attraction is this temple is it has a special architecture “Atchala” which means flower design rooftop. In 2019 west Bengal govt. declared it a heritage building. It draws in an extensive number of pilgrims, especially during Maha Shivratri.

4. Radharani Mandir

One of the most popular temples in Nabadwip is Radharani Temple. The symbol of this temple of the love of the goddess Radha for Lord Krishna. It is called that once goddess Radha became angry with Lord Krishna and went to the jungle to escape from Sri Krishna. For a long day, Krishna search for Radha and didn’t find her. On a full moon night, Krishna finally found her. That’s why it is called “Gupta Mandir” Hence there has a particular belief in visiting this town on a full moon night every month. another folklore surrounding this place is it is believed to have appeared on its own and not built. The idol is decorated with several jewels and flowers. Devotional songs of Sri Krishna and Radharani are heard throughout the day.

Radharani Mandir

5. Sri Devananda Gaudiya Math

We know from this name that it is dedicated to Lord Gouda or Lord Gadhadhara. This temple is established a few hundred years ago by Acharya Sril Bhakti Prajnana Keshaba Goswami Maharaj. The main purpose of this temple is to spread the philosophy of Sri Chaitanya. This math is considered a famous religious spot. You can see the foot sage of “Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura”, the temple of Sri Gouranga, Sri Radha-Vinod-Bihari and Sri Koladeva or Sri Varahadeva, and the “Samadhi” or burial of Srila Bhakti Prajnana Kesaba Goswami Maharaja and Srila Bhaktivedanta Vamana Goswami Maharaja inside the math. This Math is divided into nine parts or “Khandas”.

6. Poramatala

“Porama” means burnt mother. It is the most popular temple in Nabadwip. It is situated in the center of Nabadwip Dham. This is a small temple under a big banyan tree. There has a history behind this temple is once upon a time there was a devasting fire spread all over the city. Nothing or none can put that fire off but the wind from the banyan tree can extinguish that horrible fire. Thereafter this place is renowned as “Poramatala” and the goddess named “Porama”. Basically, Porama is the form of the goddess Kali. Here you can visit two temples, one is Ma Bhabatarini temple where Ma Kali is worshipped and another is the temple of Bhabataran Dev means God Shiva. You can get a huge market with meager prices surrounding this temple.

7. Manipur Rajbari

Manipur Rajbari is one of the most tourist-attracted spots. It is not only a palace but a temple of Sri Anumahaprabhu Temple. In 1798 King Bhagyachandra, king of Manipur established Anumahaprabhu Vigraha.

The name “Nabadwipa” comes from the words “Naba” which means nine and “Dvip” which means island in Sanskrit. There are nine islands in Nabadwip. These islands are….

From these islands, two have spiritual significance even now. One is “Koladvipa”, now popular as “Nabadwip Dham” which is elaborated on above. And another is “Antardvipa”, well known “as Sridham Mayapur”.
Mayapur is called the spiritual capital of the world. It is situated in a place where the river “Hoogly” confluences with river “Jalangi”. Both of them are distributaries of the holy river “Ganges”. Mayapur is the main branch of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness or ISKCON.

Visiting Places in Mayapur:

1. Chandrodaya Mandir

Chandrodaya mandir is the world-famous temple of ISKCON. Srila Prabhupada is the founder of this temple from where Sirla Prabhupada started his journey of spreading the religion of love. This place is always busy with devotees who come here to get in touch with Sri Krishna, Sri Chaitanya dev, and Srila Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON all over the year. On the right side of the main building, there is a large statue of Lord Krishna and Radha and there are eight Gopikas surrounded by this statue. On another side, there is a statue of “Narasimha Dev” and a statue of “Panch Tayva” (which means the five aspects of God or absolute truth. They are Advaita Acharya, Nityananda, Sri Chaitanya, Gadadhara Pandit, and Srivasa.) in another. The main attraction of this temple is “Mangala Arati” and “Sandhya Arati”. In Jhulan Purnima, Ras Purnima, and Dol Purnima, this temple is furnished with wonderful decoration and program.

Chandrodaya Temple

Visiting Time:

Mangala Arati: 4.30am (closed at 5.00am)
General Darshan Arati: 7.00 am
Srila Prabhupada Bhagavatham: 8.00 am
Bhoga Arati: 12.00 pm (closed at 1.00 pm, reopens at 4.00 pm)
Sandhya Arati: 6.30pm.
Class on Srimad Bhagabatam: 8:00 am.
Class on Gita: 7:45 pm.

This temple is open at 4.00 am and close at 1.00 pm and reopens at 4:00 pm and finally closed at 8:30 pm.

2. Srila Prabhupada Pushpa Samadhi Mandir

This temple is called Pushpa Mandir in short. This temple is dedicated to Srila Prabhupada. This temple is situated on the “Samadhi” or the burial of Shria Prabhupada. It is a museum where his life is depicted by using different exhibits.

Srila Prabhupada Puspasamadhi Mandir

3. Chand Kazi’s Samadhi

Chand Kazi was an Islamic faith person but migrated with Hinduism by listening Harinam Sankirtana movement in Mayapur. Srivas Pandit had led that Sankirtama. Later Kazi becomes a disciple and ardent devotee of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the “samadhi” commemorates his transformation.

4. Yogpeeth

Yoga” means connection and “Peeth” means place. The place where Sri Chaitanya was born is, named Yogpeeth”. Yogpeeth represents the place, where the Lord descent into the physical world. I think you understand by these lines that the “Yogpeeth” is the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya. The Supreme Personality had mercifully appeared here about 500 years ago. The structure of this temple is built in white marble. The tower of this temple is 30m high. The Yogpeeth in Mayapur is the center where people are taught excellent Yoga and Meditation. It is heard that Sri Chaitanya was born under a neem tree. That tree is still seen there even now in the Yogpeeth. There is a hut made with clay and the statues say us about the life and philosophies of the saint Sri Chaitanya. There has a small shrine which is devoted to Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakur who raised the fund to make the building. Though there is a disagreement about this place. Someone says that the original birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is in the riverbed of Ganga.

5. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Museum

The first museum dedicated to Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the world is Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Museum. You can see various stages of Mahaprabhu’s life have been portrayed here in series in this three-floored building. You can see childhood, marriage, monkhood, religious preaching and etc.

Visiting Time: From 10 o’clock in the morning to 12 o’clock at noon and from 3 o’clock in the afternoon to 7 o’clock in the evening for a whole week.
