In the Indian state of Manipur, Bishnupur is a district whose name was derived from an ancient Vishnu Temple located in the town. This temple was established in the 15th century. Though this Vishnu Temple is located in the land of Bishnupur, it is known as the cultural and religious capital of Manipur. Bishenpur is another name for Bishnupur. Guangdong was the previous name of the Bishnupur district. Imphal, the capital of Manipur is situated at a distance of 27 kilometers from Bishnupur. Being the district headquarters, which is bounded by Senapati and West Imphal district. In the west, Churachandpur district, and in the south-east, it is surrounded by Chandel, on the east by Thoubal district. the southeast and Thoubal district on the east. A river named Thangjarok flows through the town. The majority of people who resides in Bishnupur follow Hinduism and are vaishnavites. Lai Haroba is the most popular and celebrated festival in Bishnupur which it must celebrate every year. The official language of this town is Manipuri. Every year, from June to September the district receives rainfall and thus the district has got monsoon climate. During winter, the months of December and January the district tastes a fair cold climate while during summer, from May to September it is the hottest.
