The city of Dehradun is a very popular hill station and is located in the middle of the Doon Valley in the state of Uttarakhand. The city is located about 1400 feet above sea level. It has a pleasant climate almost all year round, which indicates a lone traveler, family, and couple alike. It is also called the winter capital of Uttarakhand. Dehradun was home to freedom fighters whose names are engraved in gold on the Clock Tower. It was called “The Gray City” in the initial days because ex-Army officers and VIPs considered this place ideal for residents after retirement. How to reach

By Road: Dehradun is well-connected with many other major cities of India. It has a number of public and private bus services. Uttarakhand Transport Corporation serves as the main public sector inter-state and intra-state transport service. The corporation has a fleet of buses, connecting Dehradun to other cities and towns in the state as well as cities in the neighboring states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.

By Train: Dehradun is well-connected to various cities and towns in India via rail. Dehra-dun Railway Station is part of the Northern Railway network and it is the last station on the railway line. Superfast trains operating from this station are Dehra-dun Shatabdi Express and Kochuveli Dehra-dun Superfast Express. Other trains include Dehra-dun Jan Shatabdi Express, Dehradun Express, Allahabad Link Express, Varanasi Dehradun Express Doon Express, etc.

By Air: Dehradun’s airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is located about 22 km away from the city center. Air India, Jet Airways, Jet Konnect, and Spice Jet have regular flights to Dehradun. So tourists from abroad can reach the city via international airports located in metropolitan cities of India such as Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, etc. You can easily hire a taxi or cab from the airport to reach the city.
