Kufri, located near the Himalayas, is a picturesque hill station located at a distance of 20 km from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. It was founded by the British in 1819. The popularity of the hill station as a tourist spot has only increased in the last few decades. The name ‘Kufri’ comes from ‘Kufr’ which means ‘Lake’. Particularly popular among trekkers, It is the starting point of the track among others in Manali, Shimla, Revalsar, and Fagu. Kufri, Shimla, and Chail also form the Golden Triangle of Himachal Pradesh. The cool and pleasant climate with its spectacular natural beauty has recognized Kufri as a perfect place for summer.

How to reach

By Road: There are well-maintained roads that connect this to the neighboring towns and major cities of India such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Manali. Private as well as state-owned buses operate between Shimla and Kufri and also connect it to Narkanda and Rampur. The smaller roads leading to the top are dirty and muddy making it a little risky, especially during the monsoon and winter seasons. So, be careful.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Shimla, which is 22 km away from this city. It’s connected by a narrow gauge line with Kalka (100 km) which in turn is connected with the major cities in India. The toy train journey from Kalka to Shimla is enchanting and passes through 107 tunnels and lofty arched bridges. The duration of the journey is around six hours. The frequency of trains that ply from Kalka to Shimla is pretty good with at least four trains plying to and fro from Shimla daily.

By Air: Shimla is the nearest airport & it is about 13 km away from this city. Flights from Shimla operate to Delhi and Kullu. Taxis & cabs are easily available from Shimla airport to reach Kufri. Also, you can easily hire them to reach your preferred destination.
