In the Brahmaputra river, majuli is a river island. In India, it became the first island to be made a district. It has an area of 880 square kilometers. In the south, the island is formed by the Brahmaputra river, and in the north, the kherkutia xuti, an anabranch of the Brahmaputra, is joined by the subansiri river. Is accessible by ferries. From the state’s largest city Guwahati, the island is about 300–400 kilometers east. The island was a long, narrow piece of land called majoli, in the north which had the Brahmaputra flowing and in the South, the burhidihing flowing till they met at lakhu.
