    Agnigarh is a Hillock situated on the bank of the river Brahmaputra in Tezpur of Assam, India. The word ‘Agnigarh’ comes from the word ‘Agni’ which means fire and ‘Garh’ which means fortress or wall. It is believed by Hindu mythology that Agnigarh is the site of a fortress built by Banasura to keep his daughter Usha in isolation. From Agnigarh visitors will get a birds-eye view of the city Tezpur and it has become one of the main tourist spots in Tezpur

    According to the Hindu religious myth, the history of Agnigarh is associated with romance. The fortress ‘Agnigarh’ was built by Banasura to keep his daughter Usha in isolation. The grandson of Lord Krishna Aniruddha and the daughter of King Banasura Usha had fallen in love with each other. But the King Banasura did not accept their relationship, imprisoned Aniruddha, and kept his daughter Usha in this place in isolation. It is believed that the isolated place had a boundary of fire and no one could pass the boundary without the permission of Banasura and here comes the name ‘Agnigarh’ or fort of fire.

    The inside view of the Agnigarh is amazing, it cannot be expressed in words. The place expresses such a deep meaning of love. There is a round stairway that will lead the visitors to the crest of the hill where there is a statue of Aniruddha abducting Usha and the battle led by Krishna where thousands were killed to free them. Assam State Government alternated the hill with a beautiful park with many statues, mythological Hindu scenes such as the marriage scene of Aniruddha and Usha, the abduction, battle for love, and many others. The outside view of this place is mesmerizing. From the hill, the visit will get a view of the whole of Tezpur city. Along with the sights of the beautiful river Brahmaputra. From the hill, the Bhumura bridge can also be seen, which lusters like a necklace on the river Brahmaputra.
