    After the 64th session of the Indian National Congress, the committee organized an exhibit with a few animals, and birds and after that, they felt it is also necessary to make a zoo. They moved all animals in the Hengrabari Reserve Forest. Is the history the establishment of Assam state zoo in the year 1957 and it was open to the public in the year 1958? Over the year the number of animals and birds and the area of the zoo increased. In 1982 the Assam state zoo added a museum and after that, it was renamed Assam state zoo cum botanical garden.

    This zoo cum botanical garden comprises an area of 432 acres which is 175 hectares. The zoo is the home of 895 animals,reptilesit, and birds representing more than 113 species of  The main focus of the zoo are animal exhibits, reptile houses, museums, botanical gardens, natural forests, children’s par, and herbarium collection, a lake, and a tower house. In the zoo, there is also a park with lots of recreational tools for children. The Assam state zoo cum botanical garden provides a natural habitat for the flora and fauna. Among the creatures in the zoo, there are White tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, Black Panther, Asiatic Lion, deer, sambar deer, White Rhino, leopard cat, one-horned India Rhinoceros, clouded leopard, golden langur, elephant, slow loris, Himalayan Black bear, binturong, jungle cat, hoolock gibbon, etc and many species of monkeys, reptiles, birds. The zoo is not only home to creatures but also the home to diverse species of herbs, shrubs, palms, and conifers. There is also a large orchid garden with 40 varieties of rare orchids with different flowers, broad-leafed plants, and many more.
