    According to Hindu mythology, Usha the daughter of King Banasura came here to visit the temple regularly. The Goddess Bhairavi also is worshipped here as she is one of the Mahavidyas of Goddess Durga. Locally the Bhairabi temple is known as the Bhairabi Devalaya. The four-hundred-year-old Bhairabi temple has been damaged badly by an earthquake. The temple has tilted slightly and also the building on the west and south sides of the second and third stories are damaged moreover it has a cracked pillar and unhinged roof. Currently, the temple is managed by the Government under the supervision of the District Deputy Commissioner and it belongs to the family of the Borthakur of Tezpur.

From the local vendors, visitors can buy Ghee lamps, sweets, incense sticks, earthen lamps, fruits, flowers, and petals which are offered to Goddess Durga during the prayer to get blessings. The Durga Pooja is grandly celebrated in the Bhairabi temple. The outside view from the Bhairabi temple is mesmerizing. From the backdrop of the temple, visitors will get a view of the stunning Kolia Bhomora Setu and the mighty river Brahmaputra. Besides the amazing Bamuni hills is also near the temple.
