    A Bible is a collection of sacred texts in Christianity, consisting of the Old Testament and New Testament. A Bible Tower is a tall construction reflecting the Christian culture and faith of Thrissur. The Bible Tower is the tallest church tower in Asia which is situated in Thrissur city of Kerala India. It is constructed in the shape of an open book symbolizing the Bible. It was inaugurated on 7 January 2007. Dr Pedro Lopez Quintana dedicated the Bible Tower to peace. The tower stands at a height of 260 feet which carries deep-rooted Christian faith in the religion. It has almost 24 floors. From the 24th floor, you can get an incredible top view of Thrissur. It has paintings depicting the history of the Lady of Dolores church. On the top of the tower, there are many types of Bibles and monuments are displayed. You can use the lift service to get to the top but if you want to see Bible pictures you need to use the staircase to get down.

There are 460 steps from top to down and on the way you can see multiple art pieces in murals, acrylic, glass painting, etc. On the wall, there are many paintings based on the stories of Jesus Christ. The glass paintings of the tower are sure to leave a visitor spellbound.
    The wooden door is scripted with Bible words that reveal the whole life of Jesus. And the life of the Early Church in different materials. It offers a quick glimpse into its architectural and artistic offerings.
    There are some depictions of the Holy Bible and many Bibles in different languages of ancient ages. The Red Cross on the top of the Bible tower is lit to “ show the presence of the Roman Catholic Church in Thrissur”.
    It is a sacred place which is perfect for prayers.

    History

    The Bible tower is an integral part of the Shrine Basilica of our Lady of Dolours, a pilgrimage site. It is the first Christian art gallery in Kerala. It is well known for its religious significance and unique architecture. The tower symbolizes Christian faith and serves as a beacon for the community. Beautiful paintings of different types on the walls represent the life of Jesus Christ. In the tower, you can see the wooden statue of infant Jesus Christ, the healing of Jesus depicted in stained glass, miracles of Jesus etched in brass, the suffering of Jesus Christ in oil paints, mural paintings of the life history of St. Thomas, and the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ depicted in canvas. The wooden door which leads into the church is scripted with words from the Bible. It provides a cost-effective opportunity for visitors to enjoy religious and cultural elements within a defined timeframe. The Tower has different types of collections in different languages. This is a religious place for Christians but other people can see the historical monuments in the Tower.

    Bible Tower ThrissurThe view of the tower is magnificent. Plenty of the artworks are placed on the inner walls of the tower depicting the life of Jesus Christ and his disciples. The Laughing Christ is a very attractive painting. There are wall paintings, artwork, and a collection of old Bibles you can see when you climb down. The artwork on the walls was telling different stories. There is a floor on which you can see Bibles from various eras.
    Outside the Bible Tower, there is a beautiful garden. You can get a view of Thrissur town and nearby areas from the high above. On the top, you can also get a cold breeze. The church is just behind the tower and there you can have spiritual meditation.

    How to Reach

    By Air: Fly to Cochin International Airport (COK) is the nearest airport Which is about 55 km from Thrissur. From here you can hire a taxi or public transport to reach Bible Tower.  

    By Train: Thrissur Railway Station (TCR) is the nearest station to Bible Tower. Approximately 3 km away from Bible Tower. From here you can take an auto rickshaw or taxi to reach Bible Tower. 

    By Bus: The nearest bus stand to the tower is the Sakthan Thampuran Bus stand. It is about 1.2 km away from the place. Another nearest bus stand is KSRTC which is 1.6 km away from the place. From here you can directly reach the tower.

    • Winter is the best time to visit this place. From October to March when the climate is to be deliberated.
