    The Capital Complex Tourist Center is situated at a distance of 4.5 km from the Chandigarh Bus Station in Sector 1 of the city of Chandigarh in India. This place has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016. And it is also one of the best heritage sights in the city. This Capitol complex makes Chandigarh unique from other places in India. It is  Le Corbusier‘s most spectacular work. He conceived the master plan of Chandigarh as analogous to the human body. He proposed the state have a head, heart, lungs, mind, circulatory system, and viscera. The city concept is based on four major functions living, working, taking care of the body and spirit, and circulation. The complex is spread over an area of around 100 acres.  It serves as the seat of the government of the state of Haryana and Punjab. It is a prime manifestation of the city’s architecture. The architectural style of this complex is Marvelous. Separated by large piazzas, the buildings, and the place look just breathtaking. You will definitely enjoy visiting this place.

    History

    There are three architectural masterpieces in the complex including the Palace of Assembly or Legislative Assembly, Secretariat, and High Court.

    From 1951 to 1957 the High Court was constructed. The structure has a double roof that looks like an inverted umbrella. The wonderful outward sweep of the roof symbolizes protection and justice.  And the three vertical piers, rising 60 feet from the floor painted in vibrant colors form the grand entrance to the building. The Secretariat was built between 1953 to 1959. It is the largest and tallest building of the three edifices.

    The Legislative Assembly of this place completes the complex. The place is square in plan and has a monumental portico standing free from the main building which also faces the High Court. The shape of the cupola is an obliquely truncated hyperbolic paraboloid that extends well above the roof line. The complex has an artistic beauty because of its unique plan that makes it different and attractive.

    The Open Hand Monument is located in the center of the Capitol Complex. It is the official emblem of Chandigarh which was also designed by Le Corbusier. It is significant to the city’s credo of ‘open to give’ and ‘open to receive.

It is also well connected with the other major cities of India. You will find taxis and cabs outside the railway station, which can take you to your desired place easily.
