Chilika Lake is located near Balugaon in Odisha. It is the largest coastal lagoon in India and second in the world. During the monsoon, it spread across an area of over 1100 square kilometers and 906 square kilometers during the dry season. It is a brackish water lagoon separated from the Bay of Bengal by a narrow Sandy ridge.
Chilika Lake Balugaon is well known for its rich biodiversity, which supports a unique ecosystem with numerous species of fish, migratory birds, and other wildlife. It is a Ramsar Site (Wetland of International importance) for its ecological importance.
