    Declaration Date: Declared in 1975 as a wildlife sanctuary and became a national park in 1978.

    The Park is situated in the Western Ghats, the district of Ernakulam of Kerala in India which is 10°05′N, 10°20′ North and 77°0′, 77°10′ east and the first National Park in Kerala. It is a land where flowers bloom once in twelve years. The park is looking so beautiful and perfect for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. It is also known as the meeting place of mountains, the location of Anamudi, and the land of Nilakurinji.

    Attraction

    Thinking about Eravikulam National Park brings out the diverse natural spots inside. First of all, is the Anamudi Peak which is known as the crown of the region. Leopards, macaques and Nilgiri languors live here. Anamudi is located at the very top which is a place for flora and fauna and a great tourist attraction. Not to mention that the Atukkad Waterfalls are a sight to behold. Echo Point is a popular destination for tourists for trekking and echoes can be heard in the valley. Pamper is located on the tributary of the river and the place for swimming is enough to attract tourists. Then I will talk about the immense beauty of Forest Rose Garden. All in all, Eravikulam National Park can enchant a tourist with knowledge as well as captivating beauty.

    History

    In past, Eravikulam National Park was operated by Kanan Devan Hills produce company. Prior to 1971, the area was under the rule of Rajamalai National Park. Once upon a time most of the area in the region was highly suitable for tea and coffee production. The Nilgiris were then the habitat of the Tahr tribes and the Kerala government declared the area a wildlife sanctuary in 1985 to protect them. This green land of deep sanctuary mystery was identified as a national park in 1986.

    The park is a combination of many species of animals and plants, including extinct animals, including six mammal species. The main predators are golden jackal, lion, gaur, tailed macaques, sambar deer, jungle cat, wild dog, tiger, dhole, and leopard. There are also Indian porcupine, Nilgiri langur, Nilgiri marten, stripe necked mongoose, ruddy mongoose, small-clawed otter, and dusky palm squirrel. Also, have the elephants that make seasonal visits only. Bird species include Nilgiri wood pigeon, Nilgiri flycatchers, and the beautiful Endemic butterflies. The area is home to amphibia. that’s why a lot of people visited this place every year.So,Don’t miss the beauty of this.

    How to Reach

    By Air: Trivandrum and Coimbatore International Airport are the nearest Airports. Trivandrum is situated 148 km away and Coimbatore is situated 175 km away from the park. So, from the airport, many transport services are available to reach Munnar

    By Train: The nearest Railway station is Anuva in Kerala which is 120 km away from Munnar. You can hire a cab from the station.

    By Bus: Only 15 km away from Munnar in the Park and bus service is available. So, you can hire a cab or take any private bus too to reach Munnar.

    You should take a small water bottle  as  well as a small bag where you can carry all the essential things of yours.
