    The Imphal war cemetery is located in Imphal, the capital of the Indian state of Manipur. It is in northeast India and Borders in upper Burma (Myanmar). This cemetery has 1,600 Commonwealth burials of the second world war. It is maintained by Commonwealth  War Graves Commission.

    In 1942, during the second world war, The Japanese army occupied Burma by defending the Commonwealth forces. Then they reinforced In Burma and used it as the ‘staging ground’ for an attack on Imphal. Then the intention of Assam contains the Chinese air operations across the Himalayas. After the defeat of Burma, the army retreated to Imphal in India. And it was the easiest route from Burma. Indian diaspora in Burma of nearly 400,000people also fled to India. The battle is considered to be the next day of Kohima. During the battle, over 50,000 people died. The battle has been termed the Normandy of the east. It is reported that during the second world war the number of death in Kohima and Imphal was over 65, 000 Japanese troops and 18, 000 British and Indian soldiers.
