Khedi waterfall, located on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, is the only waterfall listed on the ‘Barahat Range.’ The specialty of this waterfall is that it is not natural. It’s the outlet of the overflow discharged from the Maneri hydroelectric project made on the Bhagirathi River. That means water from the Maneri hydroelectric project released falls as a waterfall. But, not one would assume it at first glance. It is because the Khedi waterfall is one of the major attractions for tourists in Uttarkashi. It is gorgeous on both sunny days and during the rain. We bet the route to Maneri is more breathtaking during rain than on average days. The entire valley gets covered in clouds due to rain, and at the waterfall, you can witness cloud formation if luck favors you!

    Attraction

The force of water is dangerously strong, leaving most people’s mouths hanging open. The force is so tremendous that you have to be careful if you plan to go hiking because there is no chance of making a mistake.
If the sun is right behind you and the clock is ticking around 1-2 pm, you might even witness a beautiful rainbow (right over the road to Gangotri) like a picture. This feels so unreal!
Near the waterfall, there is a shop where you can enjoy tea and snacks like momos. Along with the shop, there is another way to the ‘2 levels’ viewpoints for the waterfall. Don’t forget to capture some memorable shots from here because it’s actually a picturesque location. You are also allowed to go one more level down viewpoint. You can even hike down to the waterfall, but keep a raincoat if you plan to stand for a long time.

    History

Khedi waterfall isn’t a natural waterfall as it is said earlier. This is the leftover water that’s already done its part spinning a turbine to produce electricity at Maneri Dam. But even this artificial waterfall is not only beautiful but also powerful. The water rolls down like a raging hippopotamus from a squarish yet tiny hole to the side of the hill spraying everyone on the road with a enchanting mist.

    Inside/Outside Views

The sound of the water is perfect for calming down and absorbing all your journey tiredness, giving you more energy to travel to Harshil Valley or any other spot. The place is always pretty because there are two waterfalls in a short distance. One is man- and the other one is purely natural. There is no room for doubt that both give a picturesque view and make the place surreal. When the wind is all mixed up with water vapors, making it cool around the area, tourists feel like the visit is worth it! The water vapors form in such a way that it is as if there is a natural AC environment surrounding this waterfall.
If you are lucky enough, you might also be able to witness the rainbow after 1-2 p.m., feeling the water droplets on your body and a backdrop of hills behind you!
