    History

The Ramatirtha Crocodile Project has a long, fascinating history that is rooted in its protection efforts. In the 1950s,  the Ramatirtha reservoir was constructed for irrigation purposes. As the Osidha State government recognized it as an ideal habitat condition,  they launched a program named the ‘Crocodile Conservation and Breeding Program’ in 1975. The aim of the project is to protect and improve the population of the Mugger crocodile, which is going to vanish due to habitat loss and poaching.  After one year, the project met success by boosting the crocodile population, and it led to the establishment of Ramatirtha Crocodile Park in 2004.

    Inside/Outside Views

Outside View: The outside view of the project is the scenic surroundings. Inside View: The project is a natural habitat for the crocodiles. Here, the crocodiles are staying in better protection to increase their population. Since the crocodiles were becoming extinct, this project was started to save them.

The project also includes boat rides on the Baitarani River. The guided tours and boat rides offer close views of the crocodiles who are seen basking on the riverbanks or gliding through the water.Ramatirtha Crocodile Project
