The palace is constructed in a typical Nalukettu. This palace preserves cultural heritage, historical items, and Kerala’s royal history.  It is a Palace where visitors can learn about the history and culture associated with the dynasty.     Sakthan Thampuran PalaceSakthan Thampuran Palace showcases a blend of traditional Kerala architecture and colonial influences. It was constructed in Kerala Dutch style. The Palace spans six acres. The main structure is a Two-storeyed building designated in the traditional Kerala Nalukettu style. 

    Sakthan Thampuran introduced the Poonam festival in this region.  This annual festival is celebrated in the month of May. 

    This Museum houses artifacts from regional history, including bronze sculptures. The Museum is full of antique collections, including coins, weapons, and more. The Museum showcases the royal family’s history and various cultural exhibits. There is also a heritage garden and pond nearby. The Palace itself is beautiful, and there are a variety of gardens that make it awesome. The Palace is calm, quiet, and very serene. People who are interested in learning about history and culture should visit the Palace. 

    History

    Sakthan Thampuran Palace is also known as Vadakkekara Palace. It was reconstituted in Kerala Dutch Style by Ramavarma Thampuran, the renowned king of the Perumpadappu dynasty of the erstwhile state of Cochin, in 1795.  He ruled the dynasty from 1790 to 1805. Ramavarma was known for his progressive prudence and efforts to modernize the region. Ramavarma Thampuran period was known as the ‘Golden Age of Kochi.’ This Palace plays a crucial role in Thrissur’s political and social life.
    The Palace consists of a two-storeyed Western-style building, and the other half has a traditional Kerala architectural style.
    After the Ramavarma Thampuran regions, the Palace came under the control of the archaeological department, and it  was converted into a museum in 2005 by the state.

    Sakthan Thampuran Palace When you enter the palace, you will see a variety of ancient artifacts displayed. The palace has spacious halls adorned with furniture. The steep roofs, slender wooden pillars, and intricate carvings on the wooden wall are a beautiful reflection of the past. The weapons are decorated with glass, which is particularly fascinating. 

    Beside the palace, there is a herbal garden, sacred groves, a butterfly garden, and a lake. Inside the garden, there is a tomb of Sakthan Thampuran, the great ruler of Cochin dryness. A museum is behind the palace, which has many artifacts related to Sakthan Thampuran’s period. 

    The palace is near to Vadakummnathan Temple.  In front of the place, there is sufficient space for parking.

    By Air: Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport, approximately 55 km away from Thrissur. From the airport, you can hire a taxi to Thrissur. From Thrissur, this palace is easily accessed by local transportation. 

    By Train:  Thrissur Railway Station is the nearest station which is approximately 3 km away from the palace. From Thrissur you can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw to reach the palace. 

    By Road: The Thrissur KSRTC bus stand is near the palace, which is approximately 2 km away. From here you can hire a taxi or auto to reach the palace.
