The well-known Sanaghagara Nature Camp is located in the district of Keonjhar. ‘Sana’ means tiny, and ‘Ghagara’ means waterfall, hence the waterfall’s name. Near the Sanaghagara waterfall is another fall called Badaghagara (bada meaning big). The most visited tourist sites in the state are these two waterfalls. Sanaghagara Waterfall is 30.5 meters high, while Badaghagara Waterfall is 60 meters high. It’s a unique ecotourism destination. Natural falls with captivating beauty are created as the San Machakandana River meanders gently over the hills. The geography in the area is very undulating and features hills, pediments, and a narrow valley formed like a “V.” The dolerite origin of the rock formation is indicated by the steep slopes and pediments.

    Attraction

Renowned for its picturesque Sanaghagara Waterfall, encircled by an abundance of flora, lies Sanaghagara Nature Camp. The camp is a great place to unwind and go for walks in the nearby hills and forests because of its stunning views. In addition, visitors can take part in adventurous pursuits like hiking and bird viewing while learning about the tribal culture and customs of the surrounding communities.

    History

Sanaghagara Nature Camp was created to highlight the Keonjhar district’s natural beauty and encourage ecotourism. Because of its abundant natural riches and diverse wildlife, the Sanaghagara region which includes the lovely Sanaghagara Waterfall was historically important. To draw tourists and strengthen the local economy, the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) and the local government started building eco-tourism infrastructure in Keonjhar a few decades ago. A component of this project is the Sanaghagara Nature Camp, which seeks to benefit local communities and encourage conservation while offering visitors a sustainable and immersive experience in the area’s natural environment.
