    Seethargundu viewpoint, located in Palakkad district, is just a few kilometers away from the ‘Nelliyampathy hills.’ It’s recognized as one of the most beautiful natural attractions in kerala. You can reach there by car after paying the entry fee at a check post (few kilometres before the destination). Ample parking space, refreshment and restrooms areas are available at the entry. This place is so popular that it becomes one of the most rushy places in Nelliyampathy especially on weekends and other holidays.
    Seethargundu has one of the spectacular view points, located in Nelliyampathy Hills (Palakkad, Kerala, South India). This amazing attraction is totally blessed with lush greenery. Here you can enjoy many Tea Estates, Thick Forest and few Spectacular Aerial Views.

    The Seethargundu viewpoint is a beautiful place along with a breathtaking backdrop. This place gives the breathtaking valley view of whole Palakkad city and at the edge of the Seethargundu viewpoint trail we can see the ‘Seetharkundu waterfalls’ as well., the best time to visit and view the waterfall is during monsoon as it is filled with water.

    Seetharkund, according to mythology, is believed to be the place where Lord Ram, Lakshman, and Goddess Sita took rest during their exile period. From a religious perspective, this place is sacred and many devotees gather here all around the year.
    At Seetharkundu you can also find the famous tree that has become the landmark for ‘Nelliyampathy’. If you ever search for Nelliyampathy, the first thing you will see is the ‘gooseberry tree.’ Furthermore, if you move a bit from there, you can find the ‘suicide point’ from where the Seetharkund waterfall will be visible.

    Legend takes us back to the Epic Ramayana. It says, during their exile, Lord Rama, Lord Lakshman, as well as Goddess Sita rested at this place. Therefore, the name ‘Seetharkundu,’ which translates to ‘Sita’s rock emerged. ‘ The beauty of ‘Seethargundu Viewpoint’ cannot be expressed in words, it must be experienced by yourself. For both travelling and religion, many people visit this place.

    Inside/Outside Views

    Seethargundu Viewpoint is about 5 km from Pulaiyanpara, and it is an easily accessible place as well. You have to travel through the ‘POABS estate’ to reach the parking lot. There is a only 20 Rs parking fee. From that place, you have to walk almost 1 km through the tea plantation and take a rough path (with some ups and downs) as well.

    The view from the path is unbelievably beautiful. The entire valley is filled with lush greenery and freshness. On the right side, there is a big hill. And, at the end of the path, you will be able to see a waterfall falling from another hill far away. It’s a very deep forestry area, and the tree, which is located on both sides of the cliff, is an attraction for visitors. You might also encounter the mischievous monkeys which can grab all the food packets you are holding on reaching there. If you are lucky enough, you can see some wild animals as they come closer to the cliff. If you love to take photos, you will get lots of awesome photo locations here.  It’s, without a doubt, a must watch place for all the nature lovers out there.

    There is no entry fee to this area but Rupees 10/- have to pay for vehicle parking.

    How to Reach

    By road: It is situated in Palakkad’s ‘Kollengode’ area. From the busy area of Palakkad, the Seethargundu viewpoint is 50 to 60 kms away. Kerala is well connected with other major cities like Kolkata, Midnapore, Chennai, Siliguri, Delhi, Ghaziabad, Mumbai etc. of the country. And from Palakkad city, you will get local transports to reach the site.

    By air: The closest airport, ‘Coimbatore International Airport’ (which is an international one), is almost 120 kilometres away from this area which is in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. You can visit this place from outside of India. Apart from that, there are airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata or Lucknow with direct flights in Kerala through ‘Cochin International Airport’, Kerala. From the airport, you can easily get local transports to reach the site.

    By train: The closest railway station from the Seethargundu viewpoint is 63 km away at the ‘Palakkad Junction’. This station is well connected with major areas of the country. From the station, you will get local transport so that you can reach the site.

    Tips for Travellers

    • Please wear suitable and comfortable clothes according to both culture and seasons.
    • Don’t forget to follow the code of conduct.
    • If you are visiting Kerala for the first time, try to visit in a group for safety purposes.
    • Please stay away from total strangers.
    • You may face mobile phone network issues and make your calls before Pothundy Dam.
    • You won’t find shops on the way from ‘Pothundy Dam to Neliyampathy’. So, ensure that you
    • carry bottles and snacks along with you.
    • If you are planning for a stay in Nelliyampathy, you should arrange it prior.
    • There are check posts on the way and the timing at the check post is from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
    • Stay safe, as there are no barricades and guards to warn you.
    • Take care of the kids if they are travelling with you.
