    Shri Govindaji Temple is one of the largest Temple in Imphal, Manipur. It is located next to the palace of the former rulers of the then Manipur Kingdom. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and his consort Radha. There are some other images of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra, and Balabhadra. This temple is one of the holiest places for Hindu religious people. The environment of this temple is remarkably peaceful.

    History

     

    The temple holds huge significance both historically and spiritually. It stands as a symbol of devotion and instigation in a region. The temple was built in 1846 during the period of Maharaja Nara Singh and was dedicated to Lord Govindaji. During the earthquake of 1868, the temple and deities were substantially damaged. And later Maharaja Chandrakriti rebuilds the temple. After the Manipur war of 1981, the idols of the temple moved to kongma.In 1908, Maharaja Church and Singh moved to his new place, the idols were also moved with him and reconsecrated in the present temple The temple is the holiest place for Hindu people.
