    The Sivananda Kutir is part of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres which was founded in 1991. Sivananda Kutir is situated on the bank of the holy river ‘Ganga’ along with the stunning backdrop of the majestic ‘Himalayas‘. The Ashram is in the small village of Netala which is eight kilometres north of Uttarkashi. There are high altitude and spectacular Himalayan peaks that provide the most perfect natural environment for the practicing yoga.

    The area is also called ‘Devbhumi,’ which means it is the ‘Land of the Gods.’ Sivananda Kutir is renowned not only for its breathtaking natural beauty but also for its sacred heritage. It also carries a vast history of spiritual practice taking you back thousands of years. Here sages and saints of the ages have found solace, serenity, peace and inspiration.

    The Shivananda Kutir conducts regular yoga and meditation classes for practitioners of all levels (For example: from beginners to advanced students). These classes focus on ‘Hatha Yoga’ and include ‘asanas’ (postures), ‘pranayama'(breath control), and meditation techniques.

    History

    Founded by Sri Swami Vishnudevananda (disciple of Sri Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh), the ‘International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres’ organization with locations around the world, is famous for the teaching of classical yoga as well as ‘Vedanta,’ which promotes physical, mental and spiritual health. The Organisation is recognized as one of the most authentic yoga institutions in the world.     The ashram is relatively small from the inside compared to its other branches. Still, the holy river ‘Ganga’ is critical in ensuring the divinity needed in your yoga practice. They have rooms as well as dorms that are neat all the time. The staff are well behaved too. Sivananda Kutir is a casual yoga school. However, it is led by professional and skilled teachers, followed by a strict routine and diet in an aspiration to make you feel an accurate and complete meaning of Yogic life. Located en route to Gangotri, near the Ganga, the Kutir is situated in the small village of Netala. The place is free from pollution and chaos and is a perfect setting for the course. Visitors genuinely have had a wonderful experience.

    How to Reach

    By Road: If you are traveling by road, we recommend that you plan your journey in advance and arrive at the Ashram before 5:30 PM. Night travel is not recommended due to unpredictable weather, and most importantly, some of the roads close at 9 PM. The journey from Rishikesh or Dehradun normally takes approximately 5 to 6 hours and an additional hour from Haridwar.
    From Haridwar to Uttarkashi, there is a bus terminal just opposite the station, but bus travel is not recommended due to frequent breaks and longer travel time. Shared taxis to Uttarkashi are also available from Rishikesh and Haridwar (most of them depart in the early morning). Expect to pay around Rs. 350 from Rishikesh (who departs from Natraj Chowk) and Rs. 500 from Haridwar (who departs opposite the bus stand).

    By Air: The nearest airport ‘Jolly Grant Airport‘ falls under Dehradun. From the airport, you can travel by car to Netala.
    You can fly into ‘Indira Gandhi International Airport’ in New Delhi and then travel by train or road to Haridwar or by connecting flight to Dehradun before continuing by road to Netala.

    By Train: There is no train service to Uttarkashi/Netala available. But fom New Delhi ‘NDLS’ to Haridwar Junction (HW) there are train services with the travel time of approximately 5 to 6 hours. We recommend you book rail tickets as soon as possible. Train e-tickets can be booked up to three months in advance via the internet.

    Ans: Warm, cold, filtered, and sterilized Himalayan spring water is provided 24 x 7.

    Ans: Free Wi-Fi facilities are available during specific breaks. However, the internet may be unreliable due to terrain, weather conditions, etc.

    Que-06: Which network is relatively stable in Ashram?

    Ans: The Airtel network is relatively stable in the Ashram. You can purchase one at the airport if you do not have a SIM. SIMs are also available in Uttarkashi town.

    Que-07: Which items will be provided at the Ashram?

    Ans: The ashram will provide a Blanket, two bed sheets, a meditation cushion, a pillow, and a pillowcase.

    Que-08: Can I visit Shivananda Kutir along with my family?

    Ans: Couples are not allowed to stay together during ‘TTC,” ATTC’ and Sadhana Intensive due to promoting celibacy, independence, and detachment. Consequently, men are not allowed to visit the ladies’ dormitory, and women are not allowed to visit the men’s dormitory either.

    Que-09: Can I bring my child?

    Ans: Unfortunately, the Ashram cannot accommodate children at the moment. But we hope to in the future.
