    History

As per legends, ‘Sheikh Fariduddin Baba’ (a Sufi saint from Afghanistan) came to Kerala around 800 years ago.  The big rock might be his ‘Dargah’ or the final resting place. The unique and giant stone formation is situated at an altitude of 2,500 meters from sea level, and the special ‘spherical or circular shape’ is widely believed to have gradually formed after the saint’s death.
The belief is that this rock was once small, and by using it, the Sufi saint used to grind his pan or betel nut. However, to everyone’s surprise, the water source between the cracks of the rocks does not seem to dry (even during the summer season). That is why this place has become more mystic.
