The Thrikkarthika festival is celebrated as the birthday of Ammathiruvadi. One of the famous festivals is the Pooram festival, which is grandly celebrated here for 13 days. Navaratri is a nine-day festival which is celebrated here with grandly.

    History

    The ancient name of this place is Valayalaym, and hence, the goddess is called Valayadheeshwari.
    According to Kerala’s history,  the Ammathiruvadi Temple was built by the Poomully Namboothiri. It was built about 700-1000 years ago. In his time, he was well-known as a ruler. The temple site was once the location of the Namboothiri household. One day, the goddess comes to Namboothiri’s dreams and asks him to find an idol in a well far away and reinstate the goddess from the umbrella onto the idol. Namboothiri did as the goddess wished and gave admission to the Maharaja of Cochin. From them, one of the goddesses is known as Ammathiruvadi.
    Now, The Cochin Devaswom Board is the main authority for its temple administration.

    By Train: Thrissur Junction is well connected to major cities of India. The temple is about 7 km away from Thrissur. From the junction, you can hire a taxi to get to the temple. 

    By Road: From Thrissur Bus Stand, the distance is about 7 km to the temple.  You can easily access it by any local transport.
