    Vilangan Hill is a hillock which is located in Adat Panchayat, near Thrissur city of Kerala state of India. The hill is situated  7 km from Thrissur town. It is known as Vilangan Kunna. It is called the “ Oxygen Jar” of Thrissur. The hill is covered with dense forest, including a variety of trees and plants.  Vilangan Hill offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, which is a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts of all ages. Its soothing breeze and peaceful atmosphere make it an ideal spot for relaxation.

    Vilangan Hill is one of the most attractive tourist spots in Thrissur district. The hill is covered by lush greenery and offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of City life. From the top of the view, the hill looks mesmerised, especially at the time of sunrise and sunset. It is home to a variety of flora and fauna, as well as several species of birds, animals, and plants.
    The most attractive thing here is the 16D theatre. From the theatre, you can enjoy the waterfalls and feel the snow. The District Tourism Promotion Council in Thrissur is planning to introduce a dancing car here.

    History

    The name is Vilanga is derived from the Malayalam word “ Vilangan Mala,” which translates to the “Hill of Vilangan.”Vilangan Hill is a part of the Western Ghats, which were formed by tectonic movements, volcanic activities, and erosion. The top of the hill covers about 5 acres, and it stands at a revelation of 260 ft. from the sea level. It is notable for its scenic beauty. It offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Historically, this hill is associated with various cultural and religious activists. The hill features several temples, adding to its spiritual significance. In recent years, The hill has been transformed into a popular spot by the Government of Kerala.

From the top of the hillock, you can take a bird’s eye view of the whole landscape of Thrissur. For kids, there is a children’s park and an amusement park. There are more than 13 exciting rides, such as pedal boat pool wagon wheel. Outside the hill, there is enough parking space.

    By Air: Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport, about 60 km away from Thrissur. From the airport, you can take a bus or taxi to reach Thrissur. From Thrissur, you can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw to reach the hill.

    By Train: Thrissur Railway Station is connected to major cities across India. From Thrissur Railway Station,  you can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw for a direct ride to Vilangan Hill. Which is approximately 10 km away. 

    By Road: Bus services are available from Thrissur to other cities.  From Thrissur Bus Stand, the hill distance is about 8-10 km. From here, you can hire a taxi or auto rickshaw to reach the hill.

    Tips for Travellers

    • The best time to visit the hill is between October and March when the weather is pleasant and cool.
    • Wear comfortable shoes. 
    • Avoiding trekking and hiking if one has any physical issues or senior citizens. 
    • Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.
    • Carry water bottles and medicine. 
    • Try to eat local cuisine and know their tradition.
    • Remember to check local guidelines.
