    Brahman Kund (Kunda) waterfall is one of the most popular tourist places in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. It is located on the Girisrangha hills in the forest area named Similipal. It is probably 29km away from Bangriposi and 65 km away from Baripada. The place is known as Brahman Kund because the water of the waterfall flows from the peak point of the hills and the falling water is collected in a Kunda. It’s a place of natural resources.  Here you can experience a variety of fishes.  They can be seen swimming in the Kunda. As far as you can see, you will notice dense forests and hills. The waterfall is surrounded by forests and hills. So, it can be said a perfect place for family outings hangouts, or picnics.  According to statistics,  a large number of visitors go there every year to enjoy the waterfall.

    Attraction

    The main attraction of the waterfall is spotting the swimming fish.  If you want to spend quality time in close contact with nature, calmness, and freshness, it will be the best place for you. The waterfall provides a combination of lush greenery, picturesque views of the hills, and the serene beauty of nature in the forests with biodiversity.
    There is a small water store named Macha Kund. Here you can see big wild fishes. But the interesting part is those wild fish can eat salty biscuits. The visitors usually give them biscuits and they eat delightfully.  What could be a more attractive scene than this?
    Sometimes fishes are seen jumping underwater into the air.  Moreover, it’s a very beautiful place for an outing.

    History

    A very calm and serene place surrounded by nature. The height of the waterfall is 29 meters.  As we know the falling water of the waterfall are originated from the top of the Girisrungha hills and collected in a Kunda. For this reason, it is called Brahmanakunda or Brahman Kund. It’s a natural waterfall and it has no fascinating history. There is a myth that if people try to catch the fish from the Kund, they face death instantly.
    People consider it a sacred place for their religious faith. Nowadays, it has into an attractive picnic spot. The surroundings of the waterfall are forests and hills and the forests are filled with biodiversity which plays an important role in maintaining the local ecosystem. The waterfall itself is an element of this ecosystem.

    Outside View:  The outside view of the waterfall is mesmerizing. It has picturesque quality. The surrounding area of the waterfall is hills and forests named Similipal.  The forests are filled with various species of birds and animals. Sometimes you will hear the soothing sounds of the birds. As the waterfall is situated in the middle of the jungle, it is naturally beautiful.  The place is well-maintained by the authorities to provide the best service to its visitors. There is a guesthouse near the waterfall named Khairi Niwas.

    By Air: The nearest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport.  It is approximately 30 km away from the Brahmankunda waterfall. You can hire a taxi or cab to get easily there within a short time.

    By Train: The nearest Railway station is Bangriposi. The distance between the Brahman kund waterfall and the station is 30 km. You will get a taxi to get there.

    By Road: Bangriposi Bus Stand is the nearest Bus stand to Brahman kund waterfall.  It is approximately 29 km away from the waterfall.  From here you can take any local transport to reach there perfectly.

    Tips for Travellers

    • The best time to visit Brahmakunda is from October to June. The weather remains comfortable this time and makes it suitable for outdoor activities. 
    • Carry your necessary papers, passport, water bottles & medicines.
    • Please dress according to the weather. Carry enough warm clothes.
    • Try to know the weather update before going there.
    • Try to eat local cuisine and know their tradition. 
    • Remember to check local guidelines. 
    • Point to be noted that,  don’t follow the Google map when you are coming from Bangriposi by car. Better to ask the locals to get good suggestions. 
    • This is not suitable for kids or aged people.
