Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary earlier called Hazaribagh National Park is a wildlife sanctuary situated in Jharkhand, India. This sanctuary was established in 1955. It is home to many wild animals like sambar, nilgai, chital, peafowl, sloth bears, black bears, hyenas, and pigeons. At the entrance of the sanctuary, there is a display of relevant details in Hindi.

Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary in Jharkhand This sanctuary is famous to tourists for its diversity of animals. It allows visitors to visit wild animals in their state of freedom which is a very existing thing. It is a source of beauty in the city of Hazaribagh. A number of dams have been built here and some are in the process of construction. The purpose of building these is to create pools of water so that the animals can drink water on summer days.

History

The Hazaribagh wildlife sanctuary which was known as the National Park was established in 1955. In 1976 It was demoted to the status of a wildlife sanctuary. It was known as a national park but because of a lack of care by the government, it has become a forest.

Hazaribagh wildlife sanctuary is 115 km from Ranchi. It is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the region. Situated in a low hilly terrain, at an average height of 615 m this sanctuary has a huge number of wild animals. Like- boar, sambar, nilgai, chital, sloth bear, tiger, and panther.

It is about 10 miles from Hazaribagh city. The total area of this sanctuary is 150 square miles with a core of right-free forest which is about 80 square miles. There are a good number of watchtowers to view the beautiful wild animals and the forest.
