    Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary earlier called Hazaribagh National Park is a wildlife sanctuary situated in Jharkhand, India. This sanctuary was established in 1955. It is home to many wild animals like sambar, nilgai, chital, peafowl, sloth bears, black bears, hyenas, and pigeons. At the entrance of the sanctuary, there is a display of relevant details in Hindi.

    History

    The Hazaribagh wildlife sanctuary which was known as the National Park was established in 1955. In 1976 It was demoted to the status of a wildlife sanctuary. It was known as a national park but because of a lack of care by the government, it has become a forest.

    Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary in JharkhandHazaribagh wildlife sanctuary is 115 km from Ranchi. It is the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the region. Situated in a low hilly terrain, at an average height of 615 m this sanctuary has a huge number of wild animals. Like-  boar, sambar, nilgai, chital, sloth bear, tiger, and panther. 

    It is about 10 miles from Hazaribagh city. The total area of this sanctuary is 150 square miles with a core of right-free forest which is about 80 square miles. There are a good number of watchtowers to view the beautiful wild animals and the forest.

    By air: The nearest airport to this park is the Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi. It is roughly a two-hour drive from Hazaribagh. It is well connected with the other main cities of the country. 

    By train: The nearest Railway Station to Hazaribagh wildlife sanctuary is Hazaribagh Railway Station from Hazaribagh. It is situated at a distance of 23.9 km from the park. Which is also well connected with the other cities. 

    By bus: The Hazaribagh wildlife sanctuary can be easily reached by bus. It is well connected with the other major cities of the country by road. Various buses can be found on this route.

    Tips for Travellers

    Carry a water bottle with you and some dry fruits. Shooting is completely prohibited here.
