    Sitakund Waterfall is one of the best waterfall which is located within Similipal National Park in the Mayurbhanj district.  The distance between Similipal National Park Pithavata gate and the waterfall is only 2 km, 25 km away from Baripada, and about 91 km away from Balasore. The water flows from the top of the hills. The water is cold and clean.The surroundings of the waterfall are dense forests and hills.  The best time to visit the waterfall is during the winter season. It can be the perfect place for a family picnic or outing. Here, you can also explore other places, such as Similipal National Park,  Sitakund Forest Resort, and Similipal Eco Cottage, which are only 1 to 2 km away from the waterfall. A must-visit place in Mayurbhanj.

    History

    Though Sitakund Waterfall is a scenic place, it has a fascinating history. Its history is closely associated with religious importance. The name Sitakund is derived from the Hindu Epic named ‘Ramayana.’ Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, is closely connected with the place. According to the local legend,  Sita stayed here for some days during her exile, and she bathed in the waterfall. That’s why the waterfall is named after her name, ‘Sita.’  The local legends and folklore increase their mystical importance in the heart of the religious person.

    The way to Sitakund waterfall basically requires a scenic drive through the lush greenery of the Mayurbhanj district. When you come to the gate of the Similipal National Park, you may lose yourself in the dense verdant forests.  There are many vantage ground that helps you to enjoy the panoramic view of the flowing waters. It can be an ideal place for photoshoots and for enjoying the tranquil environment.

    The inside view of the waterfall is its flowing waters, which come down from a height. It creates a striking effect on the visitor’s mind. When the water comes over rocky surfaces, it produces a frothy and dynamic scene. There is a natural pool where the waters are accumulated. Visitors can take a bath here, though swimming isn’t allowed here. The rocks around the waterfall are often covered with lichen and moss, which adds a touch of green to the waterfall. 

    The flowing waters create a soothing auditory experience for the visitors. Besides, the environment is absolutely cool and serene.

    By air : The closest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport.  It is 273 km away from the waterfall. From the airport,  you can hire a taxi to get there. 

    By train : Baripada Railway Station is the nearest station to the waterfall.  It is only 19 km away from the waterfall. From the station, you can hire a taxi or cab to get there very easily. 

    By road : Baripada Bus Stand is the nearest bus stand to the waterfall. It is only about 25 km away from the waterfall.  From here, you can hire a taxi or cab to get there.

    • The best time to go to Sitakund Waterfall is from October to June. During winter,  the weather remains comfortable and makes it suitable for outdoor activities. 
    • Carry your necessary papers, passport, water bottles & medicines & energy drink.
    • Please dress according to the weather.  Carry enough warm clothes.
