Bihar is a state in eastern India with an area of 94,163km^2. It is the twelfth largest Indian State. It became a separate state on 26 January, though its formation was on 22 March 1912. The capital of Bihar is Patna and this state has 38 districts.
Bihar is located in the waster part of India between latitude {24֯-20′-10”N}-{27֯-31’-15’’N} and longitude 83֯-19’-50’’E}-{88֯-17’-40’’E}. Bihar is bounded by the humid West Bengal in the East and the sub-humid Uttar Pradesh in the West, it is bounded by Nepal in the north and by Jharkhand in the South.
Bihar is the western group of Eastern-Indo-Aryan Languages, mainly spoken in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh, and also in Nepal. Other subdivision languages are Angika, Bhojpuri, kudmali, Magahi, Maithili, Majhi, Musasa, Panchpargania, Nagpuri, Surjapuri, and some Tharu languages.
According to the census 2011, the population of Bihar is 103,804,637 which is ranked as 3rd. Most importantly the people of Bihar are distinguished according to religion, social caste, and language. Hindus constitute the majority of the population, and Muslims are the largest minority group.
Bihari has a rich cultural treasury including the great epic Mahabharata and Ramayana. They are especially noted for their traditional Madhubani paintings.
The Biharis celebrate the festival of Chaath dedicated to the sun god. The Chhath festival is celebrated for at least four days.
In the costume sense, Biharis always have ethnic values. Men’s traditional costumes include dhoti, kurta, and charan (wooden sandals). Saree is the traditional attire for women and especially saree worn in the “seed Anchal ” style. They are also addicted to wearing salwar kameezes. Turbans commonly known as pages are also a part of the traditional costume of the men of Bihar.
The Bihari is also noted for the production of silk from the Bhagalpur area which is named Bhagalpuri silk.

The history of Bihar started with the reign of Bimbisara. Many famous emperors including the Guptas had their capital in Patliputra. The first Muslim ruler of them was Mohammad Bin Bakhtiar Khalji who was followed by the Tughlugs and the Mughals. Though the Mughals had worked wonders in the administration of Bihar, with their downfall, they got Nawabs an upper hand over Bihar. In the battle of Buxer, Bihar was passed on to the British. In 1931, the states of Bihar and Orissa were curbed from the Bengal Presidency. Ultimately, on 15th November 2000, a separate state known as Jharkhand was culled out.
By Road: State and private buses, taxis, and autos are popular modes of transport in Bihar. There is a vast network of National Highways and State Highways that connects Bihar with major regions of the country.
By Air: Jayprakash Narayan Airport (Patna) and Gaya Airport (Gaya) are the two important airports in Bihar. Regular flights between Bihar and major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Lucknow are available.
By Railway: Patna, Gaya, and Bhagalpur are the main railways of Bihar. From stations, tourists can hire Taxis or buses.
